Bird Species You May Encounter

Rogitama Biodiversidad is home to more than 287 recorded bird species in eBird, making it one of the most remarkable birdwatching destinations in the Andean oak forest corridor of Colombia.

Among its most iconic residents is the endemic Black Inca (*Coeligena prunellei*), a rare hummingbird found only in the Eastern Andes oak forests. Visitors may also encounter the tiny Gorgeted Woodstar (*Chaetocercus heliodor*), one of the smallest hummingbirds in South America, as well as charismatic species such as the Lazuline Sabrewing (*Campylopterus falcatus*) and Longuemare’s Sunangel (*Heliangelus amethysticollis*).

At night, the forest comes alive with the calls of owls and nocturnal birds, including the Tropical Screech Owl (*Megascops choliba*), White-throated Screech Owl (*Megascops albogularis*), and the mysterious Common Potoo (*Nyctibius griseus*).

Around the lodge, visitors can observe up to 12 different hummingbird species at close range, offering unforgettable opportunities to appreciate their iridescent colors and unique behaviors in a peaceful natural setting.
